Volvo coding – FAQ
What is Volvo coding?
Many features are already built into your Volvo but are not activated from the factory. With coding we change the settings of the control units so these features can be used – without additional hardware.
Does my Volvo have Sensus or Google built-in?
Volvos from approx. 2016 to 2021/2022 mostly use the Sensus system; newer cars have Google built-in (Android Automotive). The changeover depends on the model: XC60, S90 and V90 from model year 2022, XC90, S60, V60 and XC40 from model year 2023. You can recognise Google built-in by Google Maps and the Play Store on the centre screen.
How does remote coding work?
You connect your Volvo to a Windows laptop with internet using an ENET cable and start a small remote program. We do the coding, usually within 20–30 minutes. Everything you need is in our remote coding guide.
How much does Volvo coding cost?
Single features cost €200 (Sensus) or €250 (Google built-in), any three as a bundle €450 or €550. All possible codings are available in the complete package for €1,150, or €1,450 including Pilot Assist. See the price list.
Do I need to be in Germany?
No. Remote coding works across Europe – Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, the UK and more. Outside Europe we check compatibility by VIN first.
Will a Volvo update remove my codings?
A software update at the dealer or over the air can reset codings. If that happens, we simply apply them again.
Can codings be reversed?
Yes. We can restore the factory settings by remote at any time, for example before returning a leased car.
